How does the laser remove hair?

The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into the skin tissue targeting the melanin in the hair follicle causing injury to that follicle. The Dynamic Cooling Device technology patented to the GentleMAX system cools the skin with a burst of cryogen before and after each pulse of light, maximizing client safety and comfort.

Am I still a candidate for laser hair removal if I have gray, white, blonde, red or light fine hair?

You will not be a good candidate for laser hair removal since the laser needs to see the hair follicle in order to destroy it.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

The FDA has cleared laser hair removal as "Permanent Hair Reduction". Since many factors including hormonal imbalances, stress, medications, and certain diseases could cause hair growth, new hair may appear where growth was not seen previously. It is our experience that the injured hair follicle will not repair itself.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

Typically 5 to 6 treatments will be sufficient if the recommended treatment schedule is followed.

Why do I need multiple treatments?

Hair growth is a 3-stage process:  anagen (growth), catagen (transition/regression/breakdown), and telogen (release/rest).  Laser hair removal produces the best results when it is performed during the anagen or growth stage of hair development.  A person's total hair population is not in the same phase of the hair growth cycle at the same time.  At any given time, most hairs will be in the anagen phase, some will be in the telogen phase, and a very small amount will be in the catagen phase.  Therefore, multiple treatments spaced out over several months are needed to tackle a person's entire population of hair. 

Does it hurt?

Laser Enhanced Therapies considers your comfort a priority.  Although laser hair removal can cause some minor discomfort, most people consider the procedures tolerable and well-worth the results.  For areas that are particularly sensitive, we give clients the option of using a numbing cream 1 hour prior to treatment in order to minimize discomfort during the procedure.

What can I expect immediately after the procedure? 

Immediately following laser hair removal, the skin usually becomes very warm and rash-like in appearance. This disappears within a few minutes. Cool compresses are applied to the treated area to decrease redness and discomfort. You may resume normal activity after your treatment and re-apply make-up and sunblock.
