After the laser is fired, the hemoglobin (the oxygen-carrying part of the blood) absorbs the light energy and converts it to heat. As the temperature of the blood increases, heat transfers from the blood to the vessel wall. As the temperature of the vessel wall increases, the vessel becomes damaged. The damaged vessel is then broken down and absorbed by the immune system, disappearing from sight.
How many treatments will I need to remove facial or nasal veins? Typically, 1-3 treatments completely resolves unsightly vessels.
Will laser therapy work on my leg veins?
A thorough evaluation must be done to see if laser vein removal is right for you. Leg veins are typically treated by sclerotherapy first. Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure involving the injection of a sclerosing agent into the blood vessel. Laser therapy is performed after the reticular and injectable veins are treated. In severe cases, more aggressive therapies are available. Further testing may be necessary to determine if circulatory compromise may be a consideration.
Will I see immediate results?
Yes, you will notice some vessels totally disappearing leaving a slightly pink, puffy texture to your skin. This will disappear within a few hours. Some vessels, however, will coagulate causing a darkening of the vessel. This vessel will disappear over a one to two month period similiar to the time it takes for a black and blue to go away.
